DESCRIPTION: Back by popular demand and refreshed since its pilot run, “Bi on Life” is a one-of-a-kind self-empowerment series for bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, and other nonmonosexual (AKA “bi+”) adults wanting to better understand their sexual identities and improve their self-confidence and self-advocacy. This series offers 2 half-day workshops based on the latest research, Dr. Mimi’s decades of clinical expertise and personal life experience and insights. Participants may attend one workshop of their choosing or both workshops for the full "bi on life" experience. Make an investment in yourself today!
FORMAT: The series consists of 2 afternoon workshops lasting 3.5 hours each with a 15 min break. The format of the workshops includes lecture, videos, discussion, and interactive exercises such as worksheets, art activities, and role-plays. In creating a safe space, these workshops are intended for bi+ identified individuals only (not hetero or gay allies), and attendees will be expected to arrive on time, be fully engaged, and treat others with courtesy and respect. No video/audio recording or photography is allowed during the workshop without explicit permission from instructor. Workshop #1 is on Sat, Aug 10th and Workshop #2 is on Sat, Aug 24th (details below).
OUTLINE: “Bi on Life” Workshop #1 - "Healthy Mind, Body, and Heart" Sat, Aug 10th, 1:00pm-4:30pm This workshop will help you define and refine dimensions of your sexual orientation profile, including romantic and sexual attractions to different genders, relationship and sexual experiences, and finding an identity label(s) that fit (e.g., bi, pan, fluid, queer??). Even if you’ve been out for a while, it can help to understand yourself more clearly and see if anything changed since you last checked! Next, you will learn about Dr. Mimi’s identity congruence model and see how things stack up for you. Finally, you will examine how societal forces of biphobia and bi erasure could be impacting your life and learn ways to combat internalized stigma, which could manifest as poor body image and other wellness concerns.
“Bi on Life” Workshop #2 - "Healthy Love, Sex, and Community" Sat, Aug 24th, 1:00pm-4:30pm Self-assessment of your current “level of outness” and tools to help improve your communication skills and emotional resilience in coming out to monosexual (AKA hetero or gay) friends, family, co-workers, and dating partners. Next, you will explore the ins and outs of maintaining your bi+ identity while being in a healthy romantic relationships with same- and other-sex partners. Lastly this workshop will end w/ concrete tips on building a supportive bi+-affirming support system.
