Yes, it's that time again! Time to enjoy the healthy and indulgent wonders of a fabulous Korean spa with your fellow amBisexuals at Century Day Spa & Sports Club. Century is bi far amBi's favorite Korean spa (and soon to be yours too)! After the spa at approx 6:30 pm, we will be heading over to a popular nearby pizza place for a fun group meal. Please see the "Food" section below for more information on this.
There is a lot of information here so please read through carefully.
The Groupon deal many of us used for the January and March visits to Century is still ongoing. If you have previously purchased and used this deal, you may not be able to take advantage of it again. Therefore we are trying to arrange with Century another way to for those of us who do not have a Groupon to still get in for $15 each.
For those of you who have not previously purchased and used the Groupon deal, by all means, take advantage of it now to save $10 off the regular entry price of $25! The Groupon is good for 120 days after purchase so you can definitely use it during or after this event:
Century is a somewhat westernized (and gay/bi-friendly!!) version of a traditional Korean spa, and a unique cultural delight.** We'll spend the afternoon steaming, soaking, lounging, and conversing in well appointed gender-specific and co-ed areas featuring various tubs, steam rooms, and therapeutic specialty saunas. Spa goers are usually nude (if you're shy about being nude in front of people of the same gender, you may be surprised at how natural it feels in an environment like this!) in the gender-specific areas and are provided shorts & t-shirts to wear in the co-ed, family-friendly area known as the "Jimjilbang." [sadly, this does not translate literally].
Should you choose to splurge, the spa does offer a complete array of services such as massage, body scrubs, facials, and so forth for an additional but reasonable cost. These are available on a first come, first serve basis and can only be booked upon check in. Most of us do not add on such services, but a few do; so do what's right for you. There are some incentives involved which you should be aware of:
• If you spend $70 in optional add-on services, you will get complimentary entry to the gender-specific spa only and can upgrade to Jimjilbang entry [the JJB entry is what you want for the amBi event] for $5 more.
• If you spend $100 in optional add-on services, you will get complimentary entry to the gender specific spa and the Jimjilbang.
If you don't think you're going to get at least $70 in optional add-on services, your best bet is to pay the discounted entry fee either via the Groupon or alternate means.
Our entry fee does give us access to the gym and lap pool. Should you wish to use the gym or the pool, be sure to bring proper gym attire and a bathing suit and swim cap for the pool. We also encourage you to bring any spa oriented accessories you like to use (such as scrubbing mitts, loofahs, face masks, etc) to further enrich your experience and take advantage of the opportunity to pamper yourself in such a conducive environment. Scrubbing/exfoliating in conjunction with steaming and sweating is highly recommended. Please use them only in the bathing areas.
WHAT TO BRING
• Flip flops/slippers
• Spa accessories such as scrubbing mitts, loofahs, face masks, etc (optional).
• Gym attire (optional), bathing suit and swim cap for the pool (optional).
Century sells an assortment of beverages and quick snacks like energy bars at the front desk.
After the spa at around 6:30 pm, we'll drive over to Pizza Rev, a nearby "build your own" pizza place specializing in thin crust pizzas with regular, vegan and GF options. Although we hope that everyone will stick around to enjoy dinner together, if you need to take off after the spa, that's okay too. The midtown Pizza Rev location is 1 mile from the spa and there is free parking available there as well. The pizzas are a generous personal size and are approx $10 each. To get your mouth watering now, feel free to peruse: http://pizzarev.com/menu/
PARKING & CONTACT DETAILS
Free Parking in the spa's onsite lot which is accessible from Bronson Ave just south of Olympic Blvd. :-) We'll meet in the lobby/check-in area at 2:30 pm. If you are running late, please be sure to text or call Vishal 310-770-7699. Please arrive on time to ensure your participation in this event. Cell phone access will end at 2:45 (since phones don't mix well with water or relaxation) so please call early.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT NOTE
If you are arriving to the spa on foot, please be reminded that the entrance to the spa is on the back side of the building accessible through the parking lot entrance only. There is no entrance on Olympic Blvd.
If you have not previously enjoyed this particular form of luxurious relaxation, you must try it. And what better way to do that than on a Saturday afternoon with your friends from amBi?
See you there,
-Vishal & Loren
**Please note that all Korean spas are communal bathing environments and separate people based on nude cisgender expression. If your gender identity varies from that, please contact the event host(s) to discuss potential options.
