We begin with a humorous and moving look at the state of affairs through the eyes of two storytellers, led by the inimitable Dixie De La Tour as she gives us a taste of Bawdy Storytelling. You won't know whether to laugh or cry, and you'll likely do both!
Next, our panel moderators, Janet Hardy, Dr. Chris Donaghue, and Dr. Hernando Chaves will each give a slideshow presentation outlining their take on the issues (gender non-binary, LGBTQ, polyamory and open relationships, sex addiction and is it real, casual sex, sexual health, politics, the role of religion in our personal lives, etc.), and where we might go from here. Each of the panelist will have a chance to weigh in on the topic, then the audience (you) will get to ask the burning questions you've been pondering (we trust you will come up with some very good one).
Panel 1 - Presentation and Moderation by Dr. Hernando Chaves with panelists - Janet Hardy, Lauren Brim, and Wry: The state of sex education today, which for many is nonexistent or fear-based, impacts how individuals navigate themselves, relationships, and their perspectives in society. For most people, not having a sex positive foundation of sexual knowledge adds to the shame, guilt, and intolerance, which fuels thoughts and behaviors. This panel will discuss the cultures of sex negativity and sex positivity and their impact on understanding sexual identity, orientation, gender identity, as well as sexual cultures such as the BDSM, kink, and nonmonogamous communities.
Panel 2 - Presentation and Moderation by Dr. Chris Donaghue with panelists Dr. Hernando Chaves, Kate Loree, and Gabriella Cordova: Sex therapy has evolved since the early days of sexology pioneers such as Magnus Hirschfield and Harry Benjamin. Today’s modern sex therapy often neglects to view sexual concerns of individuals and relationships through a sex positive lens, thus reinforcing narratives that may promote harm, shame, intolerance, or judgment. This panel will discuss challenges in the modern sex therapy movement, ways it can be improved, and address important issues such as addiction and sexual expression, navigating our fears, and using a strength-based approach to create a more self-actualized sexual identity.
Panel 3 - Presentation and Moderation by Janet Hardy with panelists Chris Donaghue, Orpheus Black, Kate Loree, and Quiddity Foster: Modern relationship dynamics have been shifting in large part to feminism, the women's civil rights movement and the sexual revolution. Today’s relationships offer the possibility of shared power dynamics, sexual agency, and reexamining older archetypes of what marriage and relationships were once expected to be. This panel will discuss the individual factors that affect us in relationships, ways we self-sabotage or strengthen our partnerships, boundaries and consent, changes in relationship dynamics, and the evolution of monogamy and nonmonogamy in today’s society.
Meet the presenters and panelists:
Janet Hardy co-author of Ethical Slut, Girl Fag, and seven other books
Janet brings intelligence and a rich lifetime of experiences to her lively and disarming style of presentation. She delights and inspires in the first few minutes of her presentation, then goes on to elicit laughter, tears, and a good deal of soul searching. Her Portland appearance a few months back, drew nearly 350 people and here is what some of them had to say:
• “Wow, it was a FULL house! I am left with such joy to have been in that theater with so many amazing sex positive people. Such honesty from Janet & the audience. Then to look around & see SO many people I know from SPP, that was the best!!!!!”
• “Hearing Janet speak was a phenomenal experience for me. I had so many "Ah-ha!" moments last night as things both Janet and the audience said took experiences and thoughts I've had throughout my life and, for the first time, I saw that they're all related and mean something.

Dr. Donaghue's first book, Sex Outside The Lines - Authentic Sexuality in a Sexually Dysfunctional Culture (July 2015), turns conventional sexual wisdom on its head and is available for pre-order on Amazon.
