SPA SERIES: Century Day Spa - Spring Forward!

  • Century Day Spa 4120 West Olympic Boulevard Los Angeles, CA, 90019 United States (map)

Los Angeles Chapter members RSVP here.

NOTE: Meet us in the Lobby - The entrance to which is on the backside of the building accessible through the parking lot entrance only.

Spring forward and emerge anew with your amBi peeps at our favorite Korean spa!!

Come join us, get naked, and build camaraderie while enjoying the indulgent wonders of a fabulous Korean spa at Century Day Spa & Sports Club (

We have made a special arrangement of $15 admission (normally $25) for each member of our group, payable directly to the spa at reception. Cash or Credit.

There is a lot of information here so please read through carefully to maximize your enjoyment of this event!

Century is a somewhat westernized (and gay/bi-friendly!!) version of a traditional Korean spa, and a unique cultural delight.** We'll spend the day steaming, soaking, lounging, eating, and conversing in well-appointed gender-specific and co-ed areas featuring various tubs, steam rooms, and therapeutic specialty saunas. Spa goers are required to be nude (if you're shy about being nude in front of people of the same gender, you may be surprised at how natural it feels in an environment like this!) in the gender-specific areas and are provided shorts & t-shirts to wear in the co-ed, family-friendly area known as the "Jimjilbang." [sadly, this does not translate literally]. Unfortunately, co-ed nudity is not allowed.

12:00 pm - Arrival & Check in 12:15-2:00 pm - Get naked and luxuriate in the separate men's & women's spas 2:00-4:30 pm - Meal break in café and additional saunas in Jimjilbang [Co-ed time!!!] 4:30-5:00 pm - More naked time in the men's & women's spas and getting ready to leave 5:00 pm - Event ends

Here's a video you can watch about Century Spa:

Should you choose to splurge, the spa does offer a complete array of services such as massage, body scrubs, facials, and so forth for an additional but reasonable cost. These are available on a first come, first serve basis and can be booked upon check in or on their website . For anyone booking optional service appointments, it would be better if you avoided the 2:00 pm - 3:45 pm slots if you want to enjoy the Jimjilbang co-ed area and the café with the rest of the group (see Food section below). Most of us do not add on such services, but a few do; so do what's right for you. There are some incentives involved which you should be aware of:

• If you spend $70 in optional add-on services, you will get complimentary entry to the gender-specific spa only and can upgrade to Jimjilbang entry [the JJB entry is what you want for this event] for $5 more.

• If you spend $100 in optional add-on services, you will get complimentary entry to the gender specific spa and the Jimjilbang and won't have to pay the $15 entry fee.

If you don't think you're going to get at least $70 in optional add-on services, your best bet is to pay the discounted entry fee we have arranged.

Our entry fee does give us access to the gym and lap pool. Should you wish to use the gym or the pool, be sure to bring proper gym attire and a bathing suit and swim cap for the pool. We also encourage you to bring any spa oriented accessories you like to use (such as scrubbing mitts, loofahs, face masks, etc) to further enrich your experience and take advantage of the opportunity to pamper yourself in such a conducive environment. Scrubbing/exfoliating in conjunction with steaming and sweating is highly recommended. Please use them only in the bathing areas.

• Photo ID

• Flip flops/slippers

• Spa accessories such as scrubbing mitts, loofahs, face masks, etc (optional).

• Gym attire, bathing suit and swim cap for the pool (only if you plan to use these amenities)

• Cash for tipping your massage/scrub/facial therapist (only if you opt for these add-on activities)

Century sells an assortment of beverages and quick snacks like energy bars at the front desk. They also have a café (attached to the Jimjilbang) where they sell reasonably-priced Korean food, beer & soju. The café is under new management, so the menu is quite different than for our previous visits.

We'll be gathering as a group at 2 pm at the café for a snack or a meal. Payment for food at the café is separate from the Spa so bring cash or credit card to the café area.

We'll need to let the spa café know in advance what people want to order. Please take a look at the menu below (with selections limited for our large party) and leave a comment with what you would like to order by Thurs 3/8 at 10 pm.

If you are running late, please be sure to send a message to Chelsie via Meetup or text or call Vishal at 310-770-7699. Please arrive on time to ensure your participation in this event. Cell phone access will end at 12:15 pm (since phones don't mix well with water or relaxation) so please call early.

If you are arriving to the spa on foot, please be reminded that the entrance to the spa is on the back side of the building accessible through the parking lot entrance only. There is no entrance on Olympic Blvd.

If you have not previously enjoyed this particular form of luxurious relaxation, you must try it. And what better way to do that than on a Saturday afternoon with your friends from amBi & SPLA?

See you there,

Vishal & Chelsie

**Please note that all Korean spas are communal bathing environments and separate people based on how they anatomically-present. If your gender identity varies from that, please contact the event host(s) to discuss potential options.
